Why Pilates?

Updated: Mar 23, 2022

Pronounced Puh-lah-teez, pilates is a way of exercising that is backed by science. It trains the body as an integrated whole unit, with focus paid to your core (centre), lower body and upper body plus your flexibility, balance and posture.

You can do pilates several times a week or just once a week, you can do it as part of an exercise programme that might also include cardiovascular work or team sport, and you do pilates on its own. Either way, you will develop muscular symmetry, improved posture and strength and you will learn so much about how your body moves and you are likely to find and correct imbalances too.

The great thing about pilates is that you work to your fitness level, we can adapt every exercise so that it works for you. Whatever your age, there's benefit to doing pilates.

Any generation can start a class, we have people in their 80s start up for the first time as well as centenarians taking lessons as they have done throughout their life. It's an accessible, strengthening and low impact way to be active. What's not to love.

There are different types of pilates instructors, some have done a weekend course as part of their gym instructor training whilst others undertake extensive training and are required to observe, shadow and work with other teachers before they are examined to be safe and competent. Find a teacher that you like and has a way of teaching that you enjoy and you will soon be part of lucky group of people who feel and see the benefits of pilates.

Much love,

A
